Between 150 and 200 members of the Turkey-based leftist youth movement SGDF were planning to spend a couple of weeks in the nearby city of Kobane in Syria to help out with the reconstruction of a hospital during their summer holidays. During the press conference organised to explain the motivations and denounce the isolation of the Kurds fighting against Daesh in war-torn Syria, a suicide bomber detonated himself killing 34 and injuring over 100.
