  • Canyons of Serra gaúcha can gain recognition from Unesco
    Brazil
    Lucas Amorelli
    LePictorium_0210833.jpg
    The Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, visited Unesco headquarters in Paris last Friday to defend the candidacy of the Southern Canons on the border of the Serra do Rio Grande do Sul with Santa Catherine, to the title of geopark of humanity. Currently, Brazil only has the Serra do Araripe, in Ceará, in the Global Network of Geoparks of Unesco.

    - The recognition of an entity such as Unesco is fundamental to boost tourism in the region. I am sure we will succeed in this mission, "said the Tourism Minister.

    According to regional tourism authorities, the geopark title of the planet should promote a jump in visitation from the current 500,000 to 3 million people per year.
  • Saint-Catherine goes digital
    Egypt

    LePictorium_0210080.jpg
    Sainte-Catherine Monastery, built at the feet of Mount-Sinai where Moses would have had the 10 Commandments revealed, and where the supposedly Burning Bush is still present. About 25 Greek Orthodox monks are living isolated in the monastery nowadays.

    Built in the 6th century, St. Catherine's Monastery in Sinai, Egypt, houses the second largest library of ancient manuscripts in the world after the Vatican. Containing some 3500 rare treasures including 4th century New Testament manuscripts, the UNESCO World Heritage Library contains unique and unparalleled testimony to Christian history, along with priceless religious icons. Byzantine mosaics and millennial relics.
    It is in 2018 that the monks of the monasteries, UCLA American University and EMEL (Early
    Manuscripts Electronic Library) begin a vast digitization and restoration project of approximately
    1100 manuscripts in Syriac and Arabic language to keep a copy of these treasures and thus preserve them, as well as make them accessible to all on the internet.

  • The effect of climate change on one of Bolivia's largest mountains
    Bolivia

    The most accessible mountain to climb in South America, the Huayna Potosí, suffers from the effects of climate change. Recent studies indicate that glaciers will disappear in 30 years.
    At this time of year, the mountain would be snowy, but for almost all the climbing only loose rocks;
    Where the glacial arrived, you can only see a small lake.
